Human resources (HR) is the collective term for the functions relating to the finding, screening, recruiting and training job applicants, measuring of employee performance, employee administration (e.g. leave and remuneration), as well as administering employee-benefit programs. HR is normally driven and overseen by the Human resources or personnel department, but many HR functions (e.g. defining job descriptions and performance management) are often handled by line (operational) managers and supervisors.
